February’s Thought tip to help your squash game

February’s Thought
To help your squash game
Notice whether your opponent
Is WATCHING you!
I know that you all watch your opponent but, if your opponent
Is not watching you they are VULNERABLE.
When they should be in charge.
If you are behind them and defensive and your opponent is staring at the front wall, hit a boast or a cross court from behind him.
It will be unexpected and you could get a loose ball you can attack!

Squash Tip of the Month January

January’s Squash Tip of the Month
A New Year’s resolution
for your squash game
Can you change one belief?
You must feel emotionally safer to hit a mediocre volley from the middle of the court, rather than allowing the ball to go past you to the back of the court.
This can feel the safer option, hitting from the back of the court.
BUT Remember
If you need time to hit the ball you are also giving that time to your opponent to recover.

Squash Tip Of the Month

December

Think of squash as SLOW QUICK SLOW

When you are at the back of the squash court make the ball move SLOWLY to give yourself time to recover up to the “T”

When you are in the middle of the squash court make the ball move QUICKLY attacking your opponent either to the front or the back, you are already close to the “T”

When you are at the front of the squash court make the ball move SLOWLY to give yourself time to recover back to the “T”

A Message From Bob Hanscom about Squash and the Olympics.

My Buddy Bob sent me this email and I think every squash player should read and be aware of the developments in the game and the 2020 Olympic Bid. I could not have said it better.

Hello all from Bob Hanscom

World Squash Federation president N Ramachandran tells Around the Rings he will leave “no stone unturned” in the sport’s bid to join the Olympics.

Squash’s new look is flashy, fun and TV friendly, says Ramachandran. (WSF)

“We feel we should have gotten in earlier but now we have a good chance,” Ramachandran told ATR, a nod to failed bids for the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. Continue reading

Even Dogs Have Emotions!

Check this video out it is hilarious! Who thinks that animals don’t have emotions? If they do, we human squash players certainly do and must understand that we play squash with these emotions all the time.

3 Drills to Improve Your Footwork on the Squash Court

Some Drills to Improve Footwork on the Squash Court

I was asked recently to recommend some drills to improve footwork on the squash court by Ronny Rastogi and I will cover it in depth on Help My Squash Game but for now let me recommend three different footwork exercises which will really help your squash footwork.

We all know physical competence breeds mental confidence.

Firstly create a grid, it could be the squash service box on the squash court or floor tiles. Start by jumping forwards and back and then side to side. First with two feet then with one and then create hops in every direction. You will see others doing it using ladders bare foot is great for foot strength.
